fNIM lab receives a shout-out for our recent publication on age-related neural dedifferentiation. Neural dedifferentiation refers to the reduction of neural selectivity for specific classes of stimuli, a phenomenon which can be observed in older age. The study has observed that selective patterns of activity are subsequently associated with poorer memory performance. However, the relationship between neural selectivity and memory was evident in both younger and older age groups, which makes the relationship age-invariant.
