New beginnings – Students join lab to study emotional memory

Derek, a PhD student, and Kalynn, an MS student, will work on an upcoming research project examining how emotional states affect neural mechanisms of memory.

Derek Lehtonen, previously a Masters student in the fNIM lab, is now a PhD student in the Systems Neuroscience program. Derek will continue his work in our lab, and will be co-advised by Dr. Christa McIntyre Rodriguez and Dr. Michael Rugg. Derek hopes to investigate emotional memory in animal models and in humans. Congratulations Derek!

Kalynn Carpenter joins us as a new Masters student in the Psychological Sciences program. Kalynn’s diverse background in trauma, therapy, REM sleep and memory have shaped her interest in neurobiology of emotional memory formation. Welcome Kalynn!
