The purpose of our research is to better understand the relationship between human cognition and brain activity. To do this, we use three complementary techniques: EEG, fMRI and, TMS.

EEG & ERP involve measuring the brain’s electrical activity. The general procedure involves placing several electrodes at different locations on the scalp and recording brain activity while you complete a task on a computer.

fMRI measures brain activity by detecting the magnetic properties of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. The general procedure involves lying in an MRI scanner while completing a task on a computer.

TMS allows us to directly investigate links between brain activity and cognition. This procedure involves completing a task on a computer while brief magnetic pulses are delivered to the scalp.

The video below provides a brief introduction to the techniques that we use. If you have any additional questions or would like more information please email us or call us at (972) 883-3762.
